Synopsis:
In the early days of the War of Resistance against Japan, in a region of Northeast China, primary school teacher Leng Yun (played by Zhang Kaili) refuses to live under the puppet Manchukuo regime. She courageously breaks with her husband, who collaborates with the occupiers, and joins the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army. Veteran soldier Wang Pifu (played by Jiang Hualin) sacrifices his life heroically to help Leng Yun and his daughter Wang Huimin (played by Cai Ying) escape.

In Wuhe Village, Leng Yun and Wang Huimin witness the brutality of the Japanese invaders firsthand. Along with other women who have suffered similar fates, they enlist in the resistance.
Up in the mountains, Leng Yun teaches the women to read and write, shares revolutionary ideas, and helps build a secret camp in the forest. Despite harsh conditions, they sew winter clothing for front-line soldiers and care for the wounded brought from battle.

Squad leader Hu Xiuzhi (played by Wang Lanying), a resilient and strong-willed woman shaped by hardship, joins Leng Yun in organizing and managing the camp.
As Japanese troops intensify their encirclement, to protect the main forces during a retreat, the eight women fight to their last bullet—then walk bravely into the surging river, choosing death over capture...
