The Light of Dawn tells the story of Operation Overlord. It traces one of the largest military operations man has ever conceived since the summer of 1941 - when Churchill and Roosevelt first broached the issue - to June 6, 1944. He deciphers the strategy of 'Hitler to make it fail. The film recounts this crucial turning point in World War II where questions of geopolitics (the difficult alliance between London, Moscow and Washington), the various military strategies and technological prowess as well as the fate of the young soldiers who attacked the wall of the Atlantic will pay a heavy price.

The landing will be told here in the style of a play with its intrigues, its dramas, the art of bluffing and the fate of the world being played out.

Entirely written with archival footage remastered and colorized, this 90-minute film written and directed by Jean-Christophe Rosé was produced for France Télévisions as part of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in June 2014. This film was produced by Kuiv Productions.

The Eternals has finally been released, after a year of delays. And all the discourse seems to be about the rotten tomatoes score, the box office receipts, and which country banned the film for which reason. But I think it’s time we all slow down, take a break from the discourse, and ponder the intention beyond Chloe Zhao’s mediation on time and motherhood.

It’s time for us to take a step back and ask, what’s the point of the Eternals?

The film begins with the words, in the beginning, also the opening words to the Bible, book of genesis. The book is about God creating the universe, the heavens, the earth, animals, and the garden of eden. It’s also a book filled with the destruction of the world through the blood, and numerous cities falling to the wrath of god, as punishment for the sins of mankind.

So by beginning this movie with text on screen that reads “In the beginning,” Chloe Zhao is telling us that this is a Biblical movie...that will revisit the same themes as the book of Genesis.

The very first shot is of the sun, the source of life in our solar system. This is why, in the Bible, God’s first act of creation was to say, “let there be light.” It’s very possible that the celestials made this star, that we are looking into their original furnace of creation.

Arishem tells Sersei that without the celestials, the universe would fall into darkness. It is correct that the universe is spiraling toward eternal darkness. The universe will fall in entropy, as every atom is slowly pulled apart so far that no energy will be produced. This is the darkness which these gods spoke light into. Without them guiding the universe’s energy, the universe’s atoms will separate until everything is in darkness.

The movie begins with the orb coming out of the Arishem statue and entering Ajak, who them awakens the other Eternals. This is like Michaelangelo’s portrait of God granting Adam life. It takes a single touch from God to create sentience.

The movie also occurs over 7 days, just like the world was made in six days, and God rested on the seventh. But there is a twist to this. The movie is not about the celestials creating the world in 7 days, it’s about the eternals creating a new world in 7 days. A world where humankind is freed from celestial inference, where they become the new gods of humanity.

In the Book of Genesis, after God creates the Garden of Eden, a paradise where Adam and Eve can live. I’ve always seen this garden as a metaphor for childhood. We’re born innocent, we're not aware of our nakedness. But then as we eat from our own personal tree of knowledge, we are aware of our nakedness, and eventually have to leave the Garden--our childhood homes.

The Eternals also experience their own Garden of Eden, in Mesopotamia the cradle of civilization. As humanity begins to thrive, their potential seems limitless. The Eternals are optimistic about their future, and excited to help them.

Sersei and Ikarus fall in love, and they are naked together--just like Adam and eve. Sersei even has the gift of creation. She makes water to help the crops grow, and can create animals out of thin air. This Is likely why she was chosen as the point of view character for the movie. Her powers--like the movie--are about creating new life.

When Ikarus and Sersei meet, they are pure, blank slates. They only know their names--much like when Eve met Adam in the garden. [clip from a greatest adventures stories from the bible cartoon] So the two of them are perfect metaphors for Adam and Eve. The father and mother of humanity.

But the story of creation has a tragic ending, the fall of man. In the bible, Eve eats from the tree of knowledge, persuades Adam to the same, effectively rebelling against their creator--their god.

In the Eternals, it’s Ajak, the mother figure of the Eternals, who is this Eve figure. The woman who leads her fellow creations into rebellion against their God. Later she passes this onto another mother proxy--Sersei--who becomes the new leader of this rebellion against god.

But it’s not quite right to compare the Eternals to humans. They’re more like angels, divine servants of god’s will who interfere in the lives of humans. Whereas the deviants are more like the demons and monsters from myth and lore.

This short comedy was inspired by a friend claiming chickens were slaughtered towards the end of their natural lives. I tried to keep it fun rather than labouring points (like pigs being smart). People seem keen to let me know when they think I've failed, but at least one person stopped eating meat after watching it. In case you're confused, the aliens are aware of predation but are surprised humans would still choose to eat animals, while the reference to Chinese, like Japanese and Canadians, refers to inhabitants (and the Yulin Dog Meat Festival specifically) rather than ethnicity.

COMMON ARGUMENTS AGAINST VEGANISM:

"Other animals eat animals!"
Other animals have no choice, lack moral agency, and act on instinct. Other animals routinely commit infanticide, while some eat their young. The logic of basing your behaviour on what other animals do is clearly flawed, or we should have no compunction in eating babies with our genitalia out (which I believe is frowned upon). "We're meant to eat meat!"
We evolved as omnivores, but there is now no need to consume meat (please also read https://www.scientificamerican.....com/article/does-hu and https://edition.cnn.com/2024/0....4/30/africa/morocco- regarding the meat-made-us-human myth, or simply note that Neanderthals ate more meat than our ancestors). The scientific consensus is that a meat-free diet is healthier, with research dating back to the 1960s (Adventists). The Southern States also made the "natural" argument to defend slavery, which existed for millennia with the majority thinking it fine: clearly, neither a historical norm nor the majority view is necessarily the correct or moral one. Rather, your ethics are likely formed by cultural ethical relativism (Einstein referred to meat eaters being imprisoned by delusion).

"Eating plants is no better!"
Humans have to eat things that live, but plants are not sentient like animals. They do not have brains, pain receptors or feelings. If you can't see the difference between a cow and cowslip please read this paper - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/p....mc/articles/PMC80522 - which debunks the research that has led to some meat eaters claiming plant sentience in a desperate attempt at deflection (while ignoring that more plants go to feeding livestock than humans). It is worth noting that trees bear fruit specifically to be eaten (no livestock wants us to eat them), while the argument that eating one life form is no worse than eating any other life form is to also argue people should be eating golden retrievers: calling vegans hypocrites for distinguishing between the plant and animal kingdoms while distinguishing between different orders of mammal is beyond absurd. Indeed, this whole argument is so embarrassingly inane I'm surprised I have to address it.

"Animals are killed feeding vegans!"
Animals are killed harvesting crops but the data is poor: populations are counted before and after harvesting so animals that simply leave (research suggests the majority) when the combine harvester approaches are ignored. Regardless, not only is killing animals not the purpose of arable farming (and tens of billions more animals are killed in animal agriculture each year) but more crops go to feeding livestock than to feeding humans, so meat eaters are still responsible for more of these deaths than vegans (even before the animals are slaughtered for their meat). A vegan diet results in far fewer (at least 10x) animal deaths than other diets. Ask any AI model.

“Superman,” DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn are producing the film, which Gunn directs from his own screenplay, based on characters from DC, Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

The film stars David Corenswet (“Twisters,” “Hollywood”) in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the “X-Men” movies, “Juror #2”) as Lex Luthor. The film also stars Edi Gathegi (“For All Mankind”), Anthony Carrigan (“Barry,” “Gotham”), Nathan Fillion (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “The Suicide Squad”), Isabela Merced (“Alien Romulus”), Skyler Gisondo (“Licorice Pizza,” “Booksmart”), Sara Sampaio (“At Midnight”), María Gabriela de Faría (“The Moodys”), Wendell Pierce (“Selma,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”), Alan Tudyk (“Andor”), Pruitt Taylor Vince (“Bird Box”) and Neva Howell (“Greedy People”).

"Killing Jar" is a tense psychological thriller that captivates the viewer from the first minutes. The film's plot takes place in a remote drive-in café, where a mysterious stranger armed with a gun takes seven patrons hostage. In the early days of the War of Resistance against Japan, in a region of Northeast China, primary school teacher Leng Yun (played by Zhang Kaili) refuses to live under the puppet Manchukuo regime. She courageously breaks with her husband, who collaborates with the occupiers, and joins the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army. Veteran soldier Wang Pifu (played by Jiang Hualin) sacrifices his life heroically to help Leng Yun and his daughter Wang Huimin (played by Cai Ying) escape.

In Wuhe Village, Leng Yun and Wang Huimin witness the brutality of the Japanese invaders firsthand. Along with other women who have suffered similar fates, they enlist in the resistance.

Science fiction film (or sci-fi film) is a genre that uses speculative, fictional science-based depictions of phenomena that are not fully accepted by mainstream science, such as extraterrestrial lifeforms, alien worlds, extrasensory perception and time travel, along with futuristic elements such as spacecraft, robots, cyborgs, interstellar travel or other technologies. Science fiction films have often been used to focus on political or social issues, and to explore philosophical issues like the human condition. In many cases, tropes derived from written science fiction may be used by filmmakers ignorant of or at best indifferent to the standards of scientific plausibility and plot logic to which written science fiction is traditionally held.[1]

The genre has existed since the early years of silent cinema, when Georges Melies' A Trip to the Moon (1902) employed trick photography effects. The next major example in the genre was the film Metropolis (1927). From the 1930s to the 1950s, the genre consisted mainly of low-budget B movies. After Stanley Kubrick's landmark 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), the science fiction film genre was taken more seriously. Middle-classed, slender and petite Jia Rao (Minissha Lamba) meets Gajner's recently widowed Vikram Aditya Singh Sesodia (Dino Morea), both fall in love, get married, and re-locate to live in his palace in Rajasthan. Jia finds out that everyone in the vicinity still believes that Vikram's first wife, Anamika (Koena Mitra), who allegedly met a sudden death, may still be alive, and actually witnesses an apparition in the palace grounds. She is not permitted to enter in to a certain section of the palace where Anamika had her residential quarters. However, she does manage to find her way there, and decides to follow in Anamika's lavish and sophisticated footsteps, invoking a sudden change in Vikram affections. Meanwhile local Police Inspector Pratap, none other than Vikram's brother-in-law, continues his investigation and collects evidence in order to arrest Vikram for Anamika's death.

"As an aspiring film maker, I like to research indie movies as much as possible. This one came to me as a recommendation on Amazon, and I was surprised with what I found.

IMDb says this movie was made with a two-thousand dollar budget and if that is true I am impressed as everything about it appears to be something with a much larger value. The lighting is questionable in some places and impeccable in others, and it comes as no surprise to see two cinematographers credited. Either way, the cinematography is at the least always interesting to see.

The acting is top notch, particularly from Christopher Cassarino and Martha Harms who, together, provide the greatest elements that the movie offers.

The story is bleak and somewhat cynical and the characters are mostly unlikable but the story still draws you in and despite your ability to really like these people you can't help but feel for their plight. When story of two characters concludes by the end of the movie you feel the heartache with them.

A few minor issues aside, this is a real indie gem that marks the sure signs of a capable director finding his voice, and I look forward to seeing the content he creates in the future.
